What Is a Recipient Created Tax Invoice?
A Recipient Created Tax Invoice (RCTI) is a tax invoice created by the buyer(recipient) rather than the seller (supplier). It's used when the recipient is better placed to determine the value of the supply — for example, when pricing depends on market rates at the time of delivery. Both parties must be registered for GST and have a written agreement in place before any RCTI can be issued. Learn more in our comprehensive RCTI guide.
RCTI Invoice Requirements
To generate a valid Recipient Created Tax Invoice, the ATO requires the following information on every RCTI document:
- The document must be clearly labelled "Recipient Created Tax Invoice"
- Recipient's and supplier's business names and ABNs
- Date of issue and a unique RCTI invoice number
- Description, quantity, and unit price of each supply
- GST amount for each line item (calculated at 10%)
- Compliance statements: GST payable by supplier, no duplicate tax invoice
Our generator pre-fills all compliance statements and calculates GST automatically, so you don't need to worry about missing any ATO requirements. Looking for an RCTI template to review the format first? We have that covered too.
